about

Designed to help accelerate the commercial deployment of marine & hydrokinetic (MHK) energy resources, the MHK KnowledgeBase

  • Serves as an information clearinghouse for accurate and up-to-date information about every aspect of MHK technologies; and
  • Functions as an interactive tool for effective stakeholder education, communication and collaboration.

Dedicated to wave, tidal, and marine current technologies, this site is a portal to a broad range of technology, development, energy resource, environmental, regulatory, and policy information.

Siting Protocols for Marine and Hydrokinetic Energy Projects

A DOE-funded market acceleration program, Siting Methodologies is focused on providing tools and resources to help to stakeholders address regulatory, navigational, and environmental issues associated with siting these projects.  See the Siting page for more, including reports and handbooks.

Navigating the Regulatory Framework

Identifies and summarizes the state and federal regulatory processes for hydrokinetic development in nine key states, with the goal of facilitating a better understanding of and engagement in these processes.

Planning & Assessment Frameworks

To help reduce uncertainty and improve decision-making, these frameworks identify and provide access to information regarding the physical attributes of hydrokinetc devices and the local environmental, physical, and socioeconomic resources that could be affected. The West Coast Wave Energy Framework is underway; additional frameworks, including Puget Sound Tidal, are under development.
