Market Squid

The market squid (Loligo opalescens) is a pelagic, schooling cephalopod that is important prey for many species in the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem (LME), including fish, seabirds and marine mammals.  There is also an important fishery for this species in California; it is often marketed as calamari.  The vulnerability of market squid to any Project Phases of wave energy development is not known; however, trophic changes due to the Fish Attraction Device and Artificial Reef Effects could influence squid availability as prey.

For more information, see the Cephalopod Page web entry on California Market Squid.
